Malawi

Malawi

Situated in southeast Africa, this landlocked country is defined by Lake Malawi and a strong culture of community and cooperation. From lakeshore towns to rural villages, livelihoods and social structures are closely linked to agriculture and fishing, alongside long-standing cultural traditions shaped by groups such as the Chewa, Yao, Nyanja, Maravi and Tumbuka.

Our programs are based in Mangochi, a lakeside town in southern Malawi located between Lake Malawi and Lake Malombe. With palm-fringed shores, Swahili-influenced culture and a strong sense of local community, Mangochi offers a connected experience with close access to schools, markets and community organisations.

The Mongochi community network makes our location ideal for impact-focused programs. Teaching and Kindergarten support early education and literacy, while the Construction and Renovation program improve schools and shared community spaces. Environmental Conservation initiatives focus on reforestation, sustainability education and climate resilience. Alongside Culture Week, these programs offer a meaningful way to contribute while experiencing life on the shores of one of Africa’s most remarkable lakes.
